Who uses our fruit / vegetable cages?

Our fruit cages and vegetable cages are used by amateurs and professionals alike including National Trust gardens, research institutes, fruit farms and market gardens. They are supplied as a complete package consisting of framework, netting, and fixings. Please note fruit cages / vegetable cages are not squirrel proof.

Fruit and Vegetable Cage Framework

There is a choice of natural finish aluminium or galvanised and black powder coated high tensile strength steel. The maximum distance between uprights is 3.0m (10 feet ).

The joints are our design and have been developed from our experience over many years. They comprise a stainless steel bolt and nut which will not rust and a tough nylon cap and collar. The joint can accommodate any angle. Our framework is GUARANTEED for 10 years against failure due to corrosion.

Netting

The roof nets of our fruit cages are made from black polyethylene. Black is the least visible colour in the garden and gives maximum ultraviolet resistance. Our standard fruit cage roof net is a 2 ply woven diamond mesh net with a mesh size of 19mm (¾ inch). It is very strong yet light and will give many years bird protection. Our side nets are made from black high density polyethylene. These are moulded nets which hang straight and neat. The mesh is 19mm (¾ inch) square

2 meters (6½ft) high to give sufficient growing height for soft fruit such as raspberries and also enough height to work in, and each cage has a door to allow access.

The framework is made from 25.4mm (1″) diameter uprights and 22.2mm (⅞”) diameter top rods. Available in natural finish aluminium (which does not rust), or attractive black powder coated galvanised steel.

1.2m (4ft) high for protection of low fruit bushes such as redcurrants and vegetables such as brassicas.

Choice of three types of net:

• 7mm mesh anti butterfly net for brassicas
• 19mm mesh anti bird net for soft fruit
• 50mm mesh anti pigeon net for over wintering greens

The frame is available in natural finish aluminium (which does not rust), or attractive black powder coated galvanised steel.

Our strawberry cages are 0.45m high specifically for protection of strawberries from birds.

The frame is made from 12.7mm diameter aluminium tubing.

Supplied as standard is 19mm mesh anti bird net which is ideal for protection of soft fruit
